Amsterdam, NetherlandsChapter I
A two-bedroom study in dark rest: matte black slate, hand-troweled plaster, and a bamboo partition that softens the sleeping rooms. Sleeps four. A round stone tub holds the last of the evening quiet.
80 East keeps its comfort underground. Floors of matte black slate run through the whole home, warmed by walls of hand-troweled plaster and a bamboo partition that takes the hard edge off the bedroom. Tall windows face the old willow trees, so the light arrives low and green, crossing the stone in one long arc. A paper lantern keeps its corner, a wood ladder leans with its towel, and the bathroom wraps deep black mosaic around a stone basin. Nothing here is polished to a shine; everything is finished to a touch.
